Common Questions
I can't start scanning
Flatbed needs camera access to scan documents.
- Open Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera
- Enable camera access for Flatbed
If scanning still doesn't start, please open a GitHub issue with your device model, iOS version, and what you see on screen.
My purchase or restore didn't work
- Make sure your device is signed into the Apple ID used for the purchase.
- Try again on a stable network connection.
- If restore still fails, open a GitHub issue with whether this was a new purchase or a restore attempt.
Does Flatbed upload my scans?
Not to our servers. Scanning and OCR happen entirely on-device using Apple frameworks. Your documents stay on your device unless you explicitly share or export them, or enable iCloud Sync. When enabled, complete documents sync through your private iCloud database — we have no access to that data.
Why does Flatbed need camera access?
Camera access is required to scan paper documents. Flatbed uses Apple's document scanner.
How do I make a searchable PDF?
After scanning, Flatbed runs OCR and embeds recognized text so your PDF becomes searchable.
My OCR text looks wrong
- Try scanning in brighter light and avoid shadows.
- Hold the camera steady and keep the page flat.
- For small text, move closer so letters fill more of the frame.
How do I export or share?
Open a document and use the Share action to export the PDF or share it to another app like Files or Mail.
